What is the Wellness Cup?
The 3rd Annual Wellness Cup is being held
on October 3rd, at the Branford Yacht Club. It is a distance race
attracting boats from New London, CT to Milford, CT and is an ESCA (dbl
point) race. With the continued support of local businesses and
individuals in the shoreline area we hope to raise over $50,000 this
year. Along with racing trophies for first, second and third in each
class, prizes will be presented to the top fundraisers.
Who will benefit from the proceeds of the Wellness Cup?
All proceeds will benefit the Cancer Support Community
(Formerly known as the Wellness Community of Southern Connecticut)
In 2009, The Wellness Community of Southern Connecticut joined
with Gilda’s Club, making the Cancer Support Community the largest
employer of psychosocial oncology mental health professionals in the
United States. Headquartered in Washington, D.C., the organization
includes a network of nearly 50 local Gilda’s Clubs and Wellness
Community centers worldwide, more than 100 satellite locations and
online support services that extend around the world. The new
Connecticut facility will be located along the shoreline and will
service all of Southern Connecticut. Programs are designed to help ALL
cancer patients/survivors and their loved ones in a "home" style setting
and are all FREE of charge. The Center will provide professionally-led
support groups, educational workshops, and stress reduction programs
that include exercise and mind/body practices. We have already conducted
several local educational programs in conjunction with Yale, St.
Raphael’s, and other hospitals and currently offer a Breast Cancer
Support Group in Branford. The dream for the Southern Connecticut
facility began in the summer of 2006 -- Please help us open our doors!

The Wellness Cup offers a variety of classes
and courses to fit every type of boat, sailor and skill. For ECSA racers
this is a DOUBLE point race -- a great way to ramp up the points at the
end of the season! The ECSA courses are 50nm and classes include:
spinnaker, non-spinnaker and double-handed spinnaker. And, for boats who
do not have an ECSA certificate and simple want to come out for a fun
day, there are NON-ECSA classes - cruising canvas only (no spinnakers).
By request and new for this year, the Wellness Cup will offer both a
short course of approximately 20nm, also a longer 50nm for NON-ECSA
boats. Of course, all classes and courses are dependant on weather
conditions and the number of boats entered.
